Orion Hotels operate a number of relaxation and beauty Spa facilities at its establishments.
The vision for this division within the group is to have a Bakwena Day Spa at every Orion Hotel. The Bakwena concept is based on the idea of full relaxation and rejuvenation for a full day, half day or evening package.
At Bakwena Day Spa, the aim is to cater for up to 36 guests per day. The Bakwena Deluxe brand is situated at the Santé Hotel & Spa, and is geared for specialized treatments by fully qualified therapists.
Our Bakwena Express brand is currently operational at Ditholo Game Lodge and Magoebaskloof Hotel, and is geared towards individual treatments for up to two guests per hour.
We also provide onsite corporate services, hence the trademark “Bakwena on the Move”. Our Brand promise is “Pure Indulgence” and at Bakwena we strive to create a “Pure Indulgent” experience for all our Spa guests in promoting body, mind and spiritual healing by invigorating all five senses (touch, visual, auditory, smell and taste).
Kwena is the Tswana word for crocodile, Bakwena meaning people of the crocodile. They honour the crocodile as their totem and they see the crocodile as an animal of peace – that is why we view all our Bakwena Spas as “places of peace”. The Bafokeng, of whom the Bakwena are a derivative tribe, are now the richest tribe in Africa due to royalties paid to them by mining companies who mine a variety of minerals, mainly platinum, on their ancestral land. At Bakwena Velmore, you can meet “Rufus”, our very own “crocodile” – he meets every guest on arrival and assures them a day of wealth in terms of “Pure Indulgence” and peace.
